
Gafricom is an organisation of African
people living in Gateshead and its
surrounding area. We are working
towards our vision that the African
Community can become an integral part
of community life and contribute
effectively to a better Gateshead.
What we do
We undertake projects, which enable
Africans to obtain skills necessary
for
their future livelihoods. We promote
education and provide leisure time
facilities for individuals and
families
of the African Community in Gateshead.
Activities
Here are just a few of the
activities we provide:
African dancing and drumming classes
in
the Gateshead area.
We organise exhibitions, workshops on
African art, craft and music.
We teach and perform both African
traditional and modern music.
We organise cultural events that
highlight the various cultural
backgrounds of the people of African
nations, fostering culture awareness.
We provide social events and drop in
sessions for African people, asylum
seekers and refugees.
We promote the benefits of the African
Community Association in Gateshead.
Youth awareness campaign and
development.
We provide learning resources and
encourage participation in training
sessions.
We give advice and training of
volunteers.
We organise English classes for non-
English speaking refugees and asylum
seekers.
